Charley Harper Lesson Plan

Making Animals Using Simple Shapes

Charley Harper created “minimal realism” by capturing the essence of his animal through the use of simple shapes. This is something we have worked on before but in this lesson plan we will try to add more detail to the initial design including an appropriate background.

Ed Emberly is another artist that creates fun animal drawings out of the simplest shapes. He has great ideas for what shapes to start with.
